Summary description:
Geomatics Technician performs surveying and mapping duties, usually under the direction of an engineer, surveyor, cartographer, or photogrammetrist, to obtain data used for construction, mapmaking, boundary location, mining, or other purposes. May calculate mapmaking information and create maps from source data, such as surveying notes, aerial photography, satellite data, or other maps to show topographical features, political boundaries, and other features. May verify accuracy and completeness of maps.
Job description:
Geomatics Technician obtains data pertaining to angles, elevations, points, and contours used for construction, map making, mining, or other purposes, using level, transit, Theodolite, electronic distance measuring equipment, and other surveying instruments. Compiles notes, sketches, records of data obtained, and perform work importing that data into drawings and generate the corresponding linework. Directs work of subordinate members of survey team. Performs other duties relating to surveying work such as research, drafting, QAQC, and field work as directed by Survey Supervisor.
